Couple Questions

Ok, I got some good news... I'm going to be moving on up to a 130 g tank from a 55g... good news except... i have to move to a new city, i was thinking i'd buy the new tank then just make the switch... well i got thinking about it and realized that the water from my 55 g would only fill like a quarter (if that) of my new tank.
what is my best way to go? am i going to have to wait and cylce the new tank? or if i put the old water in and added about 20 g at a time with new water (over a couple of months) would it be a danger to my fish?? any info or opinions would be great!
also, what should i feed a feather duster? his feathers are "wrinkled" or withered and i'm wondering if it's ok

On the new tank, I would make up new saltwater and add it to the tank. To make sure parameter change slowly you may want to do that a little at a time over say a month period.
Don't know about the feather duster.

so, you would recomend putting what water i have right now in my 55g, into the 130 g, then slowly add more over a month or so? thats what i was thinking of doing. I was just wondering if it was the correct way to go about it. thanks again for the reply's

I would set the new tank up and let it cycle. the water out of the 55 gallon - rock - sand you dont have all that much water in there. you are loking at more area on the bottom of the tank. so when you add the 55 gallon to it there really isnt going to be alot of swimming room in there. I think it would be better just to cycle the new tank and then move the critters into.
what I did for my move here was sold everything off as far as livestock but keep the rock and sand to reuse in the new setup when I got here. that way I didnt have to worry about loosing any livestock due to the timeing and major changes that were going to be made. just an idea though

thanks for your input, the move is only an hour away so it shouldn't pose a big threat to my livestock, I'll have to think this over for a while, luckily not moving till the end of august, figured it was as good a time as any to get a bigger tank :D (some people will find any excuse huh?) anyways, I hate waiting for a tank to cycle but at least i'll still have my 55 to watch while it's cycling... hmm maybe once i've moved "the boys" over the the big tank i'll throw a dwarf lion in my 55g... hmmm.... the longer i think about this the more expensive it gets :p anyways tks for your 2 cents i'll take it into consideration

yeah if your just moving that close you could even get the cycle going faster with some of the top layer of sand out of the 55 gallon to help speed things up. and if you get good quality LR then it will make that much more faster.
but yeah I moved to Texas and decided I need something more to take up my time so I got a bigger tank and it was cheaper here than in AR LOL
