I had major ph issues when i had my glass tops on my 210, only difference was i ditched the glass tops and replaced them with egg crate, my ph shot up to 8.2 in ~2 days, Before the eggcrate i could never get it higher than 7.9

IMO an open top is much better for a tank it does allow for CO2 to be exchanged with oxygen much easier especially since u dont have a sump where this can take place...
u should get an RO unit for sure it will save u sooooo much money... i would also think about getting an auto top off for your tank i used to have a sumpless tank and i have a JBJ auto top off system which uses floats to accuate a remote powerhead in fresh RO water to refill the tank... it would add water as needed throughout the day as the float would drop it would turn on the RO water i had in a 15gallon bin this would keep my tank good for a lil over a week so its something to think about
