cowrie question

Can anyone tell me what that is when a cowrie covers its shell with a prickly looking skin from the underside of it?

Thats his mantle and its normal-not sure why they do it though. If it wasnt so far to go get my Invert book, would go look it up!! But with my bum knee I dont take the stairs any more than I have to these days.

Okay thanks, I thought maybe this is their way of cleaning their nice shells???Maybe???
