i have heard from several people that this is a great skimmer/filter. i am thinking about putting one on my 36 reef. but there are a couple things about it that i wanted to know...like if the bio-bale it comes with is effective and if not then if i could put something else in its place (if so then what?)...and if its biological filtration abilities are good. thanks

I have the CPR Dual Bak Pak on my 90G. While it skims adequately, I would recommend selecting a different product. Octopus makes a HOB skimmer that is supposed to be much better.
Problems with the Bak Pak -
1 - Tons of micro bubbles. Despite purchasing the internal and external bubble traps, it still is producing way too many.
2 - It's too big. It is ugly in the tank and takes up too much space.
3 - Skimmate tends to be a medium green color, instead of dark black. Dark black is what you want.

on the octopus hob 300 is there room for biological filtration or some other means of filtration while still getting the full benefits of the skimmer? and is this a good size for a 36 gallon..or should i go with the smaller 100 version
