CPR continuous siphon overflow boxes

Does anyone have any experience using one of these? Is it a good investment for small reefs, or would it be a waste of money?

I also have one, but it is no longer in use as I now have a drilled tank. But, I never had a problem with it when I used it.

you will need a small air pump to run it one that sucks air as well as pushes it out i think i paid 13 bucks for mine but so far so good.

My experience with then isn't so good..I've always read they were not that good. I found this out when I took care of a buddies shop while he was on vacation..It failed twice in 5 days.

I've never used a CPR overflow myself...but I often hear that they are much more prone to problems. I have used a couple of Lifereef overflows...much better design and less likely to loose syphon...the price is close enough that the Lifereefs seem a much better deal to me. The two Lifereefs I've used never lost syphon and always restarted...plus there is no need for a powerhead to remove air.

I have 2 overflows from Amiracle that work great, and they don't need any powerheads or anything to maintain the siphon. And I haven't had any problems with the U-tube running dry. They just need to be cleaned periodically.

I have a generic version of the cpr continuous siphon and it works great. I haven't lost siphon since I got it. I used to use americal ones and lost siphon once a week or so. I have heard that this can be lessened by using a return pump that has a similiar rating, but I never had a chance to try this.
BTW, I found a way where I don't have to have a powerhead hooked up to it continuously running. I ran a long airline tube from the overflow hole to a powerhead and put it in my sump (so I don't have to worry about bubbles in the main tank). I turned it on for about a minute to get it going. Then I turned it off. Water is running from the siphon hole to the sump via this tube. It has enough water current with it to take with it any air that also builds up. So now I don't have to worry about air bubbles at all.
