cpr refugium..tight squeeze

Been doing some research on setting up a refugium. I may try a cpr hang-on refugium. I have a few questions for the people using them.
1. I have 4 1/4 in of space behind my tank. Is that enough? or too small if I use the smallest size hang-on
2. What lighting are you using.
3. How deep is you sand bed.
4. How happy are you with them as a refugium. Would you do it again.
Thanks everyone for the help.

hows it going
i have the small one, with the lights for it. (13watt PC florecent)
for the 3 days i used it, it worked great. I upgraded to a 18gall sumpfugium because i wanted a place to put my filter, skimmer and heater.
use about..4 inches of sand in it, some LR rubble and some algae. comes with the pump (rio 200)
let me know if you want mine. its the 12x12x4 model.
it will fit perfectly behind your tank
i will ship it to you (with lights) for $90.00!

Danrw84,
That's a great deal. I'm not ready to purchase yet. I'm doing a little more research on the aquafuge. Plus I'm considering building my own. Only problem is I have no idea about the plumbing. Thanks for the reply.

I have a CPR refugium hanging on the back of my reef tank. It is the 18" model. I think they are all the same dimensions except the length. You will need more than 4" of clearance behind your tank. I have 6 and it was a squeeze to get it back in there.
I use mine mainly for growing pods. They wash over the spillway eventually and into the tank. I have about 5" of live sand and lots of LR rubble. A minimal amount of caulerpa is lurking about as well. I light it with a 13 watt NO bulb. Since it so close to the lights of the reef tank, I think much of the needed light comes from there.
No plumbing involved. Just attach the crappy rio pump provided and hang 'er up.
I also have a much larger and more complex refugium plumbed into my system where most of the pods are generated. Lots of LR and LS in there along with tons of caulerpa and a mantis shrimp or two for good measure.
Good luck with your set up!

Phoenixrising,
I spoke to CPR today. They told me the same thing you did. The guy is going to try and have one made to my dimensions. How do you light yours since it is hanging on the tank. I want to do it the same way, but I dont want to spend alot on lights. It's in my family room so it needs to look desent to get by the wife. I went to home depot. I was wondering about a clip on lamp. Would that work. I found a jalli light online but that is 30.00. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
