CPR versus Eshopps overflows

Eshopps also has a height adjustments and the utube is way better then the continuous siphon that CPR uses.

So the Eshopps can be adjusted up and down so the teeth are higher or lower in the DT. I'm just wondering because if the power went out having the teeth up high would drain less of the DT.

I have the Eshopps on my 150g tank and it does adjust. When I got my new tank, I got a different one and I think it sucks. I wish I'd gotten another Eshopps. My new one ( I think it's by B&R or something) has lost suction in the Utube twice already. My Eshopps has never given me any problems. Though I can't say anything about the CPR, I'd say the Eshopps works just fine.

Yes it can. I have 2 overflows(1 eshopps) both are utube and both are adjustable I have them at the same height.

This is more likely a problem with your return pumps power vs your overflows power then with the overflow itself. Although if your new one doesnt have the baffle in the section behind the tank, the utube might not be the correct length to help prevent air from getting in.

Good looking out, It doesn't have a baffle back there. Any ideas how to fix it?
Other then ordering the baffle, which I will try to look for.

fwiw, I have used a cpr box for well over a year, using a powerhead tap to keep it primed. It has never failed to start/maintain a siphon. It is also fairly quiet and has a low profile. ymmv

I own three CPR overflows and let's just say they have their quirks.
The whole aqualifter siphon scheme can be problematic. I've never flooded with them but have come close.
I've subequently vowed not to start up any more tanks that aren't drilled... I just don't trust them.

Put in a standpipe thatll keep the water level well above the utube.

Same here, I have a cpr on my 46 reef, and I just don't trust it. I also have not flooded, but have had several close calls. All it takes is a small obstruction in the aqua lifter tube and you are toast. Mine kept filling with algae because of my lights so I switched to black air tubing which helped, also if you use the small fish screen as I do a little algae growth n that will cause the tank level to rise. I have had great luck with pro clear overflows in the past, and I will be looking to replace my cpr until I get my next tank which will be drilled.
