I would "guess" the sand bed will be ok, because crabs bury themselves in sand for protection, not for feeding. Might be a small concern if the crab is very little. But should not be a problem. Crabs generally eat meaty foods and algae. So keep him well fed then hermits should be ok.

Yeah, I agree with Tarball, its a type of swimming crab. You should leave it in your DT. It looks awesome and it eats up all the extra food that on the bottom which is good. If you do get some that mature I'd also would like 1.

That's for sure cool! Just be aware that it will eat ANYTHING it feels like. If you are ok with that, leave it in the display.

Looks just like my Sand sifting crabs I ordered from this site. Does it swim backward. Also does it have feather protrusions from the top of its head? I enjoy watching them as they burrow in the sand, and occasionally they come out and swim and look so very awkward doing it!

personally it looks like a small blue crab to me. they have the same swimming legs on the back like that and it seems the sides of the shell look to come to a point like a blue crab

hey jawdubb, thats exactly how it acts but it doesn't have any feathers protruded on there back. also all of there legs are flat , not just the back ones. i've seen crabs with the flat back legs but never all of them. but they sure keep my substrate clean of wasting food
