This guy has been in my tank for about 6 months. He finally ventured out where I could get a good photo of him. I haven't had any mysterious deaths, am I lucky or is he a "good" crab? He is about the size of a quarter.

That's a great LR hitchiker. It's a Emerald Crab. They eat bubble algea and other types.
If you don't want him you can send him to me.:D
Did I mention great Hitchiker....

He is definitely an emerald. If you want to be sure go to any lfs they will them and then compare. Excellent crabs. Mine go CRAZY when i feed Brine Shrimp. Excellent Algae eaters. In the pic it looks like his claws are near his mouth, so they look rounded.

Black tips??? that's what I thought I saw......emeralds have green claws usually, that have sort of flat pinchers for grabbing algae...see if you can get a better pic of the claws, and maybe a nice person can throw up a pic of their emeralds claws in a high res pic. Emerald crabs claws can look pointy from a certain angle, but they are clearly flat shaped......not to tear into things, but to grab and pull........does that make any sense whatsoever.....it's hard to describe.:D

Here's one I'll leave for a bit of an emerlad....it isn't my pic, so I won't keep it here forever. Still not a good shot of the claws though...

Wow, that is a great picture!
The body looks exactly the same, but the claws definitely do not. I will try and get a better picture, but he rarely comes out of the rocks.
I know there are thousands of different kinds of crabs out there. I will just keep watching him and make sure he behaves. Thanks everyone.
