crappy lighting

Hi folks,
Well here's my question. I have had my 55 gallon tank up now for about 2 months and all is well. Up to about 40 lbs LR ~ stuff is expensive so I have to add few pounds at a time, then wait couple few weeks and add some more. Last weekend decided to get all the "equipment" off the back of the tank and installed my new wet/dry sump. It was a good decision and I am happy with the upgrade. Currently running my original Millennium3000 power filter until the wet/dry becomes established. Also was able to mount my Bak-Pak2 skimmer on the sump as well ( hindsight is 20/20, wish I had planned for sump before skimmer purchase ).
So my next upgrade is lighting. Any opinions on lighting for 48" 55 gallon ?? Right now all I have is crappy single fluoresent 50/50 bulb, but I know this will not be suffient lighting. I would like to build a reef system, with some beginner corals, mushrooms, leathers and well .... I am new at this so still learning. Seems like a lot of diff lighting options out there. Any help ?

Seeing that you are only buying a few pieces of live rock at a time I assume that you don't have alot of money to spend at once. This was my scenario. I bought live rock selectively a few pieces at a time. This is the path to the master reef tank. As for lighting I have only vho's and I have all kind of stuff growing. I have 2 160 watt vho's with an ice cap ballast and ice cap fan on a cheap home depot timer on a 110 long. It works like a bad mo fo! Stick w/ championlighting.com for the best supplies. URI's and Ice Cap are a good combination for me, I would recommend this combo to anyone. Good luck!
