Crocea clam info (acclimation & placement)

Hey,
I just picked up a crocea clam and am about to start drip acclimating him. How long should I acclimate for?
Also, where in my tank should I place him? I bought a clip on metal hallide light earlier today as well. How high in the tank should he be? (I was planning on placing him in the top 2/3 of the tank.) How long will it take him to attach to the rock? And don't they have 2 vents, one of which should be placed higher? I think I read that... Anyway, which one & how do I tell them apart?
Any other words of wisdom or advice?

I would just temperature acclimate..... thats what i did with all my clams and theyre doing fine...
as for placement... since you have strong lighting (MH) .. id place it anywhere on the sand bed, where the MH is at of course.

Not on the rockwork? Like I said, I was hoping to place him in the top third of my tank...
Any other opinions?

crocea's prefer sandbeds... you can place it on the rock, but if it doesnt want to be there itll jump off...
but place it on a flat spot on some rock, wherever you want it.. itll attach in no time...
not too much flow.

Ok, so I've searched for & read a few other threads. It seems like a lot of people just temp acclimate them. I've had mine dripping for about 1/2 hour. Maybe I'll put him in soon I guess.
But it seems like most of those threads said in the rockwork, and high... I just don't want to give it sunburn from the hallides...

definatly place it on the rock, ....they'll love the light...only problem is its hard to see their awsome colors when your not looking down on them. i have 2 in my 180...one sits on a rock on the sand bed the other about halfway up, they both are very happy. google James fatheree, he has written a book on giant clams and has some great infor on them, the slit..or opening you see is their "intake....if you look real close you will see their gills, the tube like thing is their exhaust pipe!

croceas like to be on something solid, I wanted mine on the sand bed just to be sure it didn't jump off the rocks, so I sat a flat rock up under the sand and set it on that, he moved around a bit until he found his happy place and stays put now. They are also the most light intense clam but with a MH should do fine on the bottom, I wouldn't worry to much about it's position, it will move around to were it wants to be anyway.

how big is the tank because even with the halide that will decide how high to place it
if its really deep then it needs to be higher up in the tank.

It is 65 gallons, I think about 20" tall.

i would have it halfway up or higher if it were me. corceas like alot of light if i'm not mistaken

just a heads up, try not to move the clam too much the 1st few weeks since its still acclimating. the first few weeks imo is critical for clams. the less stress, the better.

Trying not to move it at all! There are multiple spots in our tank I think would be great for it, but it disagrees. It has fallen twice now. Once they find a spot they like, how long does it take them to attach? Hopefully he will like where he's at now, I think it's a prime piece of realty!

is it on flat piece of rock? a clam falling down constantly isnt good for it. try to put the clam between 2 rocks or gap. make sure it cant fall. dont give it too much direct flow also.

I tried putting it on 2 smaller, flat rocks. But it would wiggle around until it knocked itself down. Now I have it on a larger, flat rock. If this doesn't work I will try putting the rock on the sand until it anchors.
The flow doesn't seem to be an issue, it's mantle doesn't blow around at all.
