Latin name - Cymbacephalus beauforti
Origin: Western Pacific
It can grow up to to 54cm (appox 21.5 inches) in length, has large sharp teeth and eats fishes and crustaceans. Also, they are masters of disguise who bury themselves in the sand and wait for unsuspecting prey to come along... an ambush predator.
I could find NOTHING on keeping these fish in captivity. They are something better left in the wild, IMO.

:) Do you know what They would be fed in captivity ? The Crocodile Fish that is. Do they eat only " Live Foods " ? From what I hear they are not aggressive. !!!

Actually, the latin name is "Platycephalidal Scorpaeniforms"
Which is probably why you're thinking they are related to Lion Fish.
Depends a lot on how you define "Aggressive"...Most on this board will agree that Damsels have a lot of attitude...but I wouldn't put them in my Agressive tank...
Come to think of it, sure I would...Then my Crocodile fish would EAT him...:D
Crocs are "Carnivores" and "Ambush Predators" that fits more in line with "my" definition of "aggressive"

Oh, All right...one more...:D
Actually I think he's doing good...Eating well, but prefers "live" food...Loves those ghost shrimp...
Just lays there with his eyes poking out of the sand...you can see his pupils alert to any movement (including mine :) )...Then WHAM he jumps out gulps the food backs up and wiggles/sinks back into the sand.
I tried a dead silversid on a stick and "pretended" to make it swim past him...he snaped at it...scared me with his ferociousness...but he "hit" the stick and let it drop...
It sat 2" from his nose for 5 minutes..he was watching it...I turned away for a bit and when I looked back it was gone...I'm pretty sure he ate it, but I've only "seen" him eat live...
I think he'll convert to frozen soon enough though...I just want to "witness" it before I quit the "live" offerings.
Every day it's a challange to find him in the tank...Where's Waldo?
He does move around a lot though...and I do see him "out' of the sand...but he's real quick and then digs in again.
Here"s a pic of him "out"...I'll try to get a pic when he has his dorsal and pectoral fins 'Flared"...pretty cool...:D

even out he's really hard to see, nice looking fish though goos luck with him.
maybe try moving your fingers across inside the tank to mimic a fish and see what he does. lol

Squidd, wiggle your fingers in front of him in the tank and take a good picture with the other hand when he comes out. Quit being so greedy; you have ten fingers you'll get by fine with eight or nine.
:p

Seriously though, now that I saw a picture of him out he is very cool looking. Is he all by himself or does he have a buddy in there?
