when brosing through my lfs i saw a banded cat shark in a incredibly small tank(50gal). my first inclination was the animal was mistreated but when i asked management they said the animal was feeding and that they had had it for 3 months. could this be new info? or is my lfs gonna be shutdown? :notsure:

if its a baby maybe they had int hem for the time being to feed liek you said, its easier to feed a baby shark in a 50 gal than a 400 gallon tank,,
not really a breakthrough of any sort

I agree with both things PSU said.
Sharks do okay in small tanks to start because it is easier to train the shark to feed. Undoubtedly, it needs a huge tank to survive and live.

Aren't 50 gallon tanks around 36" long. The sharks length would cover half that. Doesn't seem good :notsure:

think about it this way, A 55 is ~13" wide, it wont be able to turn around.
Unfortunately most lfs have smaller display tanks, not sure why?
Maybe easier to catch fish when sold? I dont know?

when i first purchased my white spotted bamboo i kept him in my refuge that was 48x12x18 he was about 8 inches long i baught him in nov 2005 moved him to my 300 jan 1 2006 hes now 20 inches or so.smaller tanks will do fine when they are small they can be hand fed to get used to eating in captivity vs stick feeding and having sharing with other fish issues when they are that small they need all the food they can get .lets just hope the LFS is planning on selling to someone that only has a small tank in mind for life.
