I hear all sides of sand. Live or not live. What is the story with Crush coral. Had a guy
telling me not to use sand and use cush coral. Told me it would be a huge mistake
using sand. What is the forum opinion.

I think he had it backwords... the consensus you will find here is to use sand and that using crushed coral would be a huge mistake.
Did he give you any reasons not to use sand??

dont used crushed coral. you will soooo regret it later. get sand. and as for what kind, live or dead, to me it doesnt really matter. dead will eventually become live and is a fraction of the price. so imo go with dead sand

NO crushed coral, made that mistake the first time I tried saltwater. Use sand like JacknJill said, get aragonite reef sand and LR and your sand will become "live sand". I agree with JacknJill live sand is a waste of money, with the LR or with a scoop of sand from an established tank the sand will become "live". JMO

Thanks and no reason he gave. I kind of saw the crush coral and no sand there and I didn't give him time explain. I was already set on getting dead or live sand. Just crush coral never came up so I wasn't sure.
Where can I get dead sand. Everywhere I look has live.
Thanks again.

You can get it at any LFS, this site, and many other sites. The chain stores carry it as well. Although I will NEVER spend a penny at a *****!

Now that I look I guess SWF.com doesn't sell anything but live sand. Sorry for that misinformation. Go to your LFS and look for Carib-Sea Aragonite sand.
