Crushed Coral Substrate

Quick Question....I am wondering if there is any harm at all doing this in my 55g reef
Every once in a while I will notice some left overs (waste and possibly some food) laying on top of my crushed coral. I generally stir that area of my substrate up to get it in the flow so it can be filtered out by my filter. Is there any harm in stirring this up? Or should I just leave for my cleanup crew to eventually take care of?

how do these underwatrer vacuum's work? Do you just basically vacuum it out along with the water? or do the water stay in the tank?

Better yet read the sicky in the New hobby forum on advice for new hobbyiests. You'll find a couple of useful posts there.

They siphon out water and bring funk with them. So have new saltwater ready to do your water change.
