Crushed coral ???

Does crushed coral substrate need to be replaced over time? I bought my tank from a friend three years ago. He had it up and running for about 6 years. I added probably about 3lbs a year ago. I am planning to make the change to sand here shortly. When I make the change will my parameter change greatly? Anything I should watch for? Thanks.

I started out with CC and had all sorts of problems with nitrates. After doing some research, I found out that CC was the main cause for my troubles. It's a detritus trap and causes nitrates to be high. As soon as I changed over to a sand bed, no more problems with my nitrates.

my crushed coral is 14yrs old and still in use. No nitrate problem (although it can be a problem if not set up accordingly).
