Crushed Oyster Shell....

A friend of mine who just happens to work at a LFS told me that "crushed oyster shell" that you can buy in 50lb. bags makes a excellent bottom for a reef tank. I am setting up my third tank (80 gallon reef) and another friend is setting up a (120 gallon reef). He currently is running a 300 gallon in their shop with no problems. I just wanted to get some more insight from members here before I go for it.
Thanks

Dont do it . . . its just like crushed coral which can trap detritus and other organics that can foul a systems water parameters.
And . . . the plant/oyster shell guys is about to come along and tell you that its a fantastic idea, that it will buffer your system and a truckload of other nonsense. He is completely full of B.S. . . . . I assure you and so will many others on this BB . . . gotta go . . he's probably typing right now!!!!

HIya!,
I would not use it eiher. Your burrowers will have a tuff time with it. Use a finer substrate and your critters will be a lot happier.
