Cucumber

I'm not sure what "purpose" they serve but they are neat little creatures. They don't move around much but they do look really cool when filter feeding. I have a yellow cucumber that split in half so I ended up with two for one. There are also some that are quite beautiful. So what "purpose" they serve I guess one would say is in the eye of the beholder.

It depends what kind you have. Some have tentacles they use to feed on detrius from the top level of the sand bed. Others are strictly filter feeders and act little different from a coral in that they rarely even move once they find a place they are happy with. Cucumbers are safe except that when they die they can release toxins into the tank. I have three in my tank, 2 sand sifters and 1 filter feeder.
