cured rock pricing

$7/lb is typical around here. you can get it for as little as $5 or as high as $10 (***** is the only place I know selling at this price or higher than $7 and all they have is one or two crappy looking peices per tank for sale or pre order.).
The difference between cured rock and non cured around here for most stores is what part of the month you happen to be buying. They either put a date on when the shipment came in or can tell you if it just came in or has been in there long enough to cure. Same price either way.

I have really had good luck I guess but it might be from my location in Southern California.

I will not pay more the $5 a pound from the LFS. Other then that look around as you can get guys breaking down their tanks and sometimes if you are lucky you can get it as cheap as $1 a pound

Get enough to get you started and then make your own. (about 20-40 cents a pound then) ....then the only problem is the wait for the rocks to cure about 2mths

7 a lbs is tipical for rip-off artists...If you can get it uncured for cheaper, i wouldn't think twice of getting it..
Uncured is far superior than cured... here's why: The only reason why cured lr is overpriced, is due to the reason it gets put in a holding tank that suppossely has cured lr in it, and they may also have a few patches of coraline algea.. which is good, that means it has less die-off. the reason is that by the time that cured liverock gets to the lfs.. it has already been precured at least twice. leaving you with the fittest of the fit organisms..which is not so good...
LFS usually have a holding tank where they keep cured live rock..Im still trying to figure out how effective that really is???
You're not the only person that buys lr are u?
so how would u know what the turn over rate of lr is?
how do lfs know if a piece of lr that u want has been there for a month and which pieces were put in yesterday??
Unless your lfs has personal lr collectors that deliver the lr straight from the ocean to the lfs(the same day)..every month..
keep in mind that when starting a tank, the most important thing is the lr's bio-diversity within not the apperance..
Uncured lr, will give u the highest yield of infauna. but it could give high amounts of ammonia too. which is no big deal if starting a tank...all u have to do is keep it under .1ppm
also if u prefer the safe route u can cure it your self (in a seperate container)and monitor ammonia levels in a more conciously controlled manner..
a lb of lr with multiple inadequade curing processes (lfs style)= $7 .
a lbs. of uncured lr, with onetime curing process by u (knowing when you started curing it, and when its finished) =priceless..
