Curing/cooking/seeding "dead" live rock?

Hi all,
I picked up some dead rock from my boyfriend's uncle to start up my first saltwater tank. It has been left in a wheelbarrow outside for 2-3 years. Is there anything I need to do to the rock before I begin to "seed" it?
From what I gather, seeding the rock should take place if I add all my dead rock with a piece or two of live rock to my empty tank. I'll add ammonia or a shrimp and let the tank sit and run for about 6 weeks. Is that sufficient?

There was re recent thread about cleaning up dead live rock, I'll see if I can find it. The issue is that all of the organic material inside the rock is still there unless it was cleaned.

Here it is ---> https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/393284/cleaning-rocks
It's not required but I do suggest it.
I'm not a fan of the shrimp method but it will work, just not as well as a steady supply of ammonia. I recommend ghost feeding, feed as if you have a single small fish in the tank.
Your seeded rock will never be as good as live rock just pulled from the ocean but it will be sufficient for filtration and it will look like good live rock six months from now. It will just not have the diversity of fauna as that of fresh live rock.
