Unfortunately, until your tank is cycled and you do water changes you're going to have an odor. It may become less as the cycle progresses and you have less die off, but it will smell. :D

The smell you've noticed is the Live Rock going through a natural die off period. The Nitrogen cycle is a smelly cycle in the beginning but once you've established a good bateria colony to handle the waste load the smell will deminish. If you have uncured live rock the process will take more time. If you really can't stand the smell, a protien skimmer will help. When I cured my rock I put a protein skimmer on after the first two days because the smell was so bad, after the skimmer was on the smell nearly vanished.

Yeah it's pretty much throught the whole process. Good news for you though, it shouldn't take the whole 6 weeks. Are you only curing? Or are you also cycling your tank with it??

the curing process is cycling my new tank too. I have a protein skimmer going. the poor thing is on overload. i'm cleaning it like twice a day. each time there is less and less crud tho, so i know its working its voodoo. LOL.
I have about 180 lbs of LR half fiji and half tonga lalo (sp?). the guys i ordered if from screwed up the order, so the tonga was to make up for the screw up. great customer service.
I have more than enuf for both my 72 bow and my 20 QT which i'm cycling at the same time.
guess the next investment is clothespins for my nose.... LOL
