Curing LS?

Im on a quest to make a deeper sand bed for my 55 gal so that I can get some sand sifting gobies and things like that. So my question is, if I currently have LS and I mix it with dead sand, would the sand have to cure and effect my tanks parameters at all? My tank have been set up for about 5 months now and has 4 fish and 2 shrimp. Also what is the best method for putting LS in a tank without making it as cloudy? thanks

No, dead sand doesn't need to cure, but only cover a portion of your live sand at a time, and only to a depth of 1/4" or so; then wait a couple days to a week and go again. Best suggestion I've seen is a piece of PVC pipe and a funnel (may have to use tank water to wash sand down PVC). Minimul mess.

The tubing probably wouldn't have a large enough ID. I assume you are looking to use tubing that is 1/4 - 1/2' OD. This would cause you more of pain than going to lowes and picking up a piece PVC...

When i did mine i placed my LS in zip lock bags and put them in the bottem of my tank. I then cut X's in them and let the sand slowly creep out. After sa few minutes i pulled the bag out.

The PVC tube and funnel should work really good if you have spots in your tank that you want to target. I'm getting ready to do that for our 75.. flow areas where the sand hand turned into dunes and a few spots that doesn't have enough sand.
