I will be receiving another 25lbs. of Fugi LR wendsday. The last 25lbs a added to my tank started a major algae bloom. My question is I plan on curing my new Lr (Already pre-cured). Can this be done with fresh mixed saltwater. (2 days old). Or will this cause a major die off? I don,t plan on curing for more than a day or so. I will probably use my Skilter 250 to help skim this process, and leave my BaK PaK II on my reef. Any suggestions?

Pre-cured rock, what exactly is pre-cured? How long did they cure it for? There is either cured or uncured rock. If you are ordering this through the mail cure it for at least two weeks. Then add one or two pieces a day until you have it all in your tank. This is the safest way to add LR to your tank. If you are going through your local pet store and you know they cured it, go ahead and add it to your tank. If you mail order, be sure to cure it. You don't know for sure if this company really cured it do you? Did you see them do it? It is not worth polluting your entire tank with high nitrates and ammonina levels if you can prevent this.

I forgot to tell you, go ahead and use your skimmer and the salt water should be fine. Test the curing water just like you would your tank and do water changes if necessary. Use a heater to, all of these will speed up the curing process. I use a small toothbrush to get loose debris off the rock before adding it to the tank. Good luck!

If you are ordering it definately cure it as you planned but for more than a day or so, as there is always die off during shipping.
Add it a little at a time so your bacteria can catch up. Any time you put something live in your tank the good bacteria has to catch up and the tank goes through a mini-cycle, but doesn't hurt anything unless you add too much at a time. Pre-cured just means theres less die-off. If it comes from lfs there won't be die-off unless they just got it in.
