Curing Water

Can I cure water with a never been used air stone strip, instead of a pump? The strip is for a 10 gallon tank; just put it in the tub of saltwater with the heater, and let it sit for a couple of days?
Please help, going to my LFS saturday to get stuff and need to know if I should get a pump

I've used an airstone with a cheap aquarium pump & a heater to make up my water for 2 years & never had a problem. I buy a new one every couple of months.
