You can but it isn't the best way to do it. You want to have a good deal of water flow. You don't want dead spots in the curing container.

I use a rubbermaid storage tub (no idea how many gallons it is). It is hard to tell. Your going to have to just look at the sizes available.

The tote that I am talking about that I use is about 3' long X 2' high and about 1 1/2' wide. You won't need something quite that large, but a 3 gallon bucket isn't going to do it. Also make sure whatever you use is clean and has never had chemicals in it.

For 50 pounds I just used a rubbermaid bin with 15 gallons of water.
I would say at least something that can hold 10 gallons for 35.
