Curious Live Rock Question

Hi All...I'm a newbie here

I'm really looking forward to this new SWA adventure and have a question regarding the live rock sold here from SWF. Has anyone ever bought from them before and what was their experience? The prices look reasonable compared to my lfs.
I'm officially addicted
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi,
I bought about 60 lbs of live fiji rock from them last year and was very satisfied. It was a mixture of lg, md and small rocks all with lots of coraline algae growth.
I used the rocks and the live sand to cycle my tank. It took about six weeks to fully cycle.
I have not found a better deal on live rock than SWF.com. They've done a great job everytime I've ordered from them...whether it's LR, fish or coral. I've always been VERY SATISFIED.
I've really enjoyed my 1st year of stocking my reef tank. I'm sure you will too. This message board is a great resource for newbies. I've referred to it often.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I just recently got 25lbs about 3 weeks ago. I already had 20lbs I got from the lfs that cost me about $120. I think it was around $100 from here. It had great coraline growth, and looked way better than the stuff from my lfs. and free shipping too, can't beat that.

I told my lfs about the price on swf.com and they matched it. I had to pay tax, but I also got to pick which pieces I wanted :)
lfs's are great for haggling, you should try it :)

That's great news thanks folks and I'll try haggling at the lfs first!
Now my next question is should I get my tank cycling first before putting in the live rock or put the rock in to help get the cycle process going?
I have read two schools of thought where cycling your tank first helps save all the critters in the rock as opposed to putting the rock in a fresh tank might kill some of the critters.
Thanks again

If your live rock is not cured already, it will start another cycle in your tank as soon as you put it in. Why dont you just cycle your tank with the live rock? The live rock in my LFS is only $3.79 a lb. It's noot cured though. He can't keep it in stock long enough for it to cure. He gets in 1000 lbs every two weeks and it sells by the end of two weeks.

Yes Train, that's where I'm at now. Deciding between cured and uncured. This site and all my lfs's sell cured only. So if I put cured rock in my new fresh tank, I don't want to kill the critters that may survive.
Thanks

My LFS would only take 10% off their cured rock. I paid $80 for a 10 lb cured fiji rock...and that was with the 10% discount!
I have heard that cured rock should be added to a cycled tank in small quantities b/c it can cause the tank to recycle if too much is added at one time...even thought it's "cured" it may still have decaying organisms in it.
I cycled my tank with live sand and cured live rock.
