Are you wanting lights mounted in it or just the hood empty? What type of lights are you planning (MH, PC, VHO, ect)? This will determine height of hood.
Let me know.
Its a corner tank so the sides are 34 1/4 " I need it for MH and I will mount the lights when I get them . I would like a nice door or 2 in the front or the front to tilt back

Hmmmmmm........ :notsure:
Curved front. Tricky.  Always wanted to try doing one.
You are pretty close so I would want to actually come over to measure the tanks curve to make sure I got it right, if that is alright with you.
Also, is the tank stand a gloss black finish without any wood grain visible? If so, that may make things a lot easier to do. Already working on a plan.
Door(s) would be the way to go due to the curve in that flipping back would be really hard.....but not impossible. Your choice.
Let me know if still interested.

Yes the stand is Oceanic and its plastic with glass door so as long as its some what close in looks . Finish can be flat black or semi black . If the price is right there is no problem with you coming over .

OK, let me do some thinking and I'll get back to you with an estimate. Either later tonight or tomorrow late morning. I'd come over before starting construction for final measurements.
Each side is 34-1/4", what it is from the very back corner to the front of the arch? In other words, is it a true 1/4 circle?

Each side is and I think it is a true 1/4 circle ? but you can look at it before making the hood .

Do me a favor, measure the front curve from corner to corner (in inches). Should be around 48" if my rusty geometry calcs are right.
I should have two good designs by tomorrow morning and I'll let you pic which one you like best. The open front may actually be easier than doing doors if I am figuring this right.

Where were you a few months ago when I wanted something off E B A Y duplicated. Let me see if I can find the pic.

Unfortunately, I can't find the pic.
It was a matching stand and canopy for a 60G Hex (27" x 24"). The wood was stained a med/dark brown, no knots, and very light grain. Can you ballpark a price off this description? I may have a pic at work, I'll check tomorrow.

Sounds like either a maple or fine pine. The trick is finding the boards with no knots (usually prime boards.....pricy). The color is just finding the right stain.
Here is a pic of something I have seen like what you have described. This is for a smaller tank (for a 35). Something like this for a 60gal (stand and hood) would run around $400-$500, pending on how big you want the hood to be (fit for PC lights (6") or for MH (12") ). Lighting would be extra of course.
Let me know if you want more info or want me to start drawing up plans.

The corner to corner in front of the tank is 54"

Hmmmm..... :notsure: Damn high school math teacher.
OK, that means I need an 8' sheet rather than a 4' one. Doable. I just have to figure a way to get an 8' sheet home from the lumber yard as I don't have a pickup or van, only a PT cruiser. :notsure:
I have one design nearly finished in my rough sketches. It would have the entire bow front open and flip to the top for full access. It would be a single peice of pressed hardboard flexed, adhered and tacked to a frame. Very smooth appearance and would match your stand nicely.
The second design I keep running into problems getting the doors to bow with the same curve as the tank so I don't think that one will be feasable for me yet. So, I am not willing to try this when someone else is paying for it. Don't want you to get an inferior product. I build quality stuff that lasts. I will actually have to tinker with some small models before trying this one.

Also, if you want MH lighting, I would HIGHLY recommend some vent holes in the back/sides. I have a 3" hole cutter and could get a 4" one if you want to go that size. Let me know.
Also, we can do this when I come over fior final measurements but in the back, do you want any open areas for overflows, cords or lines to go over the side(s)? Easy enough to do, but I have to know before making the frame.
So, with materials and labor, you would be looking at a full hood, 12" high, ready for MH lighting, sealed and painted (gloss black outside, gloss white inside) for $275.
Let me know and I can work on final plans and arrange to come over (once the plows clear the road). Good day to be off of work!!!

do you think 1 person can move it ? if I had to get in the tank for cleaning ? right now I don't have any power heads in the tank so I would have to show you where I want them .

The entire front would lift up and you would have full access to the entire tank so moving it would not really be necessary. However, it should be light enough for one person to move.
Figure out the power head thing and I can work around them.

How long do you think it would take to build it ?

Around 3 days to build, another 2-3 days to seal and paint (mostly drying time, takes longer in cooler temps).
