Can you cut a hole in any tank? I thought the bottom glass in a tank was hardened some how?

I think your thinking of tempered glass? I actually wish to cut a hole in the side of one tank so the overflow can be directed into another tank.

Many hardware stores will have them $$$ HDepot might...Most glass tanks do have a tempered bottoms, can not drill tempered....most sides are not tempered...have to make sure....

I cut a hole in glass with a diamond coated dremmel tool. It wasn't perfectly round but it worked. I was kind of anxious on finishing my sump because I had no glass so I got some glass from a door(the ones that are seperate from the actual door) and I was just about done cutting the first part when this happened.

and the glass said "TEMPERED SAFETY GLASS" but I still cut it anyway. And look what happened. It was kind of funny actually when it breaks.

sorry to bring this up again. I can not find a diamond hole saw at any of the local hardware dealers in town. Is this something you would have to purchase at a speciality shop? and does it fit like a bit into a drill?

Sears does not carry them.
Look on ---- for one. Dirt cheap if your only looking to drill a hole or two the el chepo ones sold on ---- will do just fine. If yur in a hurry just get a diamond coated burr that fits a dreml type tool they work just as well, but getting perfectly round hole is not as easy, but then again a perfectly round hole is not always needed anyhow.....

Call around to local glass shops and see if they will drill the holes for you, may cost less than you buying the tools/bits....
