I have had an cyano bacteria outbreak since my tank was first established 2 month ago.
This red carpet has grown everywhere, lr, sand, power head. yuck
amonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 0.5
sg .024 temp 80-82 ph 8.2
90 gallon, with about 30 hermit, 2 turbo snail, 1 sally and 1 lawnmower blennie.
skimmer is collecting about 1/10 th of a cup of yellow stuff every day.
flow of water is 15 x.
no corals in tank yet, so I run my MH lights only 8 hours a day.
Tried to leave my lights off for 3 days straight. But the red carpet only came back in greater amount 3 days later.
what to do?? some one help, as my tank is ugly looking now.
only thing I am thinking is that my skimer isn't doing its job. Red Sea Berlin turbo classic.
Anyway to test how much nutrient I have in my water?
Thanks please help.

try to syphon as much of it out, i never had a real bad problem with it only had it once in my tank and after i syphoned it out it hardly came back, also you can try some products that claim to kill it but i have never tried them so i cant tell u if they work
good luck :happyfish

I had the same problem.... i had it start growning in like 5 different spots.. First i used a eye dropper and tried sucking up as much as i could.. this was extremely frustrating and took a long time, i then got frustrated and scraped it off and tried to suck it up as it was flowing through the air still not a good idea.. WEll i went to my LFS, which has done me good so far the only complaint i have from him is his prices but, i can live with that... Anyway he told me that he had it once and used ANTIRED which he quickly pointed out and i bought a bottle.. it was like $20 (yuk). I was very nervouse to use it, was scared it was going to kill my fish and i have no qt . Well i used a turkey baster this time and sucked up as much as i could did a 10% water change and then did the proper dosage for my 72g. Water looked a little yellow for a few hours but went away, my zoos didnt like it much they hid for a while nothing else seemed to mind. So its been 4days and no signs of it anywhere so that being said i recommend it.
It is called " Antired "
hope this helps...
