Lighting cycle was on about 10 hrs a day but now I only turn it on for only about 3 or 4hrs a day sometimes less.
I get my water from a lfs who claims its RO/DI but how do I test for TDS? is there a test kit? if there is TDS in the water how can I filter it out because thats the only place I can get RO water short of buying my own unit.
I will definitely rinse the food b4 i feed then from now on.
TDS meter. You can buy distilled water but in the long run it would be cheaper to purchase your own unit.

Units come with tds meters usually. I would highly recommend getting a unit. The amount of water you buy could pay off the unit after 100 gallons. Look into the ice water wind site and look at the 75 gpd unit (typhoon 3). It's very simple and can be purchased for 200-300. Get a couple of garbage pail and you can make your own rodi water and salt water. Plus you have peace of mind knowing it truly is pure water. For all you know your lfs is adding 3/4 ro and 1/4 tap...

Haha is it not ice water wind? I haven't been to that site in longer than I can remember. I do need to make a purchase for a new membrane though since it has been 9 months now.

Dont you have a sprawlmart near by? I get my water from a Culligan machine in the sprawlmart for $0.37 a gallon.

I'm tellin ya! You'll save costs all around if you buy a unit for yourself. You will save on the gas you'll spend driving back and forth forth water and you'll save money from the cost of the water within a matter of months. I have a 150 gallon with two 20 gallons under it and a 60 gallon qt. The amount of water I used paid for the unit in a matter of months. It's easy and convenient and again give you ease of mind that you're getting pure water.

i have red Cyano on one rock. the rock is propped up on the back glass of the tank now, and it spread just a bit where it touches the glass. but, since its behind the rock and on the glass, im sure not much flow gets to it. everything else is good with the exception of a few spots of HA which my Lawnmower Blenny should take care of eventually. maybe. he is getting a bit spoiled with the algae wafers... lol
