Cyanobacteria!

I have a 150 fo that has cyanobacteria that is driving me crazy. I've had it before and got rid of it pretty easy but this time i just can't get rid of it. Theres not a lot but enough that it looks like crap. I even use r/o water-which i thought would get rid of this problem! I've put polyfilters in the trickle filter to get rid of any impurities in the water too. My lights are 2 10,000k corallife and 2 50/50 corallife. The tank is a year and a half old. What else should i do or try?

How did you get rid of it before? That stuff is hard to get rid of at times but usually goes away in a few months. The big problem is there are so many factors that can trigger it what has worked best for me is r/o water and several water changes sucking out as much as possible each change. Have you changed your lighting lately?

Jimi beat me to it. New lighting will spark a diatom bloom. Did you acclimate the new lighting? I suggest the same that jimi suggests. HTH--Bob

I did just change the lighting-but i had some of the cyanobacteria already and its been about the same since i put the new bulbs in. I also use nothing but r/o water(which really makes me unhappy because thats the reason i bought the r/o unit in the first place(so i don't get cyanobacteria!!!)

Is this the brown, dusty stuff that gets all over everything?? I'm haveing a nasty time with it myself last few weeks. It seems to have made my water smell really bad too...
