Cycling Log! opinions etc appreciated! ^__^

I started cyclin my 24G aquapod yesterday... thought maybe I could do a little log in hopes that people comment on anything I could do better ^__^. Dont think Ill post pics till I get my first fish or shrimp or something XD. . .
•Day 1 :
•New: 20 lb LS ; ~5 lb LR (uncured)

Did 10% water change. Used freshwater to lower salinity. Added baking soda baked for 20 min @ 300 degrees then dissolved in tank water. Added in small amounts checking PH after several hours till desired PH was reached.
•Day 2:
• New: ~5 lb LR (cured)
Losses: 1 feather duster (hitchhiker)

I think everything is proceeding normally... I guess nitrates goin up is normal since ammonia and nitrites seem to be on their way down. I hope my temperature isnt too high. I dont want to buy a cooler T__T. I also firmly believe my feather duster is very much dead.... still hoping otherwise...

Temp : 80.5 <-- still worries me... I hope this is ok.
Also, I am pretty sure my big feather duster is dead. I also noticed there is a second large feather duster body. Also seems dead. Should I remove them?
On the plus side, I discovered 3 very tiny feather dusters that are doing OK.. they retract their little arms when I get too close and then bring em back out... its kinda cute ^__^. Should I add phytoplankton or something to feed them?

ok! about the dead featherdusters, should I try pulln em out as well as putting in some plankton for the other ones?

Meh.... ammonia keeps refusin to hit 0.... and NO2 went up <__< and NO3 is waay up too. I dont quite get this.
My feather dusters are doing ok. I might go buy some zoo/phytoplankton to feed em later today.
