My bro plans on putting 50 % of his water into my empty tank (same size as his, 50 gallon) and adding 25 lbs of live sand and 25 lbs of live rock. Would my tank be cycled?

well ur on the right track. your tank will cycle faster than a normal tank. i'd wait a week and have the water tested. also when you do this make sure you put a damsel in to get the nitro cycle goin

You shouldn’t risk any fishes life to cycle a tank. Use your test kits to check your water parameters not a fish, especially not a damsel! You will not want to have him once you introduce other fish.

thanks for the responses. Since I will have only 25 lbs of rock, will it hurt my fish to add 25 more lbs later on?

using a damsel is the best way to cycle a tank. not to mention the cheapest. he should be fine anyways. you are using live sand and rock and you have half of cycled water. i have never lost a damsel when cycling a tank. go for it
