I have been cycling my tank for 5 weeks i have had three black striped damels in there for 3 weeks.When i test the water the Ph 8. Am 0 no2 0 but the Nitrate is at 40.Just last week i added a clown fish but the fish did not make it.So how do i get the Nitrate down.

water changes do a good job at getting the trates down, a fuge also helps keep them down, you can also get a sulfer denitrifier but they are expensive.
A good skimmer also helps.
