Hey all - has anyone use the product "No- Cyno-bac"? It's suppose to eliminate cynobacteria including red slime algae. Any opinions appreciated. I got it when I put in some live rock I got. I know I need to remove the phosphates in the water..in the process now.

I would like to know if it works too. I have so much of that stuff in my tank it drives me crazy. I can clean it off the bottom and my coral and the next day its back. I removed most of the phosphate out of my water but it takes too long. I'm really interested in any product that says red slime remover. If anyone has used any red slime remover let me know. Thanks!

Another thing that gets rid of cynobacteria is freshwater maracyn, add one tablet everyother day until the problem is gone...

Thanks for everyones' input. I am in day 4 of using "No-Cya-No" by FishVet. Suppose to get rid of Slime Algae and not harm inverts, fish or bacteria. I also put in a phosphate sponge to remove the phosphates. It seems to be slowing down the red algae but I will follow the directions and use it for 2weeks. I did purchase a tap water purifier to remove the phosphates. I will update ALL when I finish the treatments. So far, no effect on the fish.

This is just an update to using the stuff called "No- Cyno-bac". Didn't have any effect at all. I did reduce the red slime by doing a bunch of water changes with my tap water purifier and phospate sponge. I also ran black diamond carbon with a newly cleaned skimmer. Did improve some...just waiting. I added 5 hermit crabs but my greenbird is lunching on them occassionally. They were cheap though ($1.30 each at the lfs). Any other suggestions would be appreciated but I think I just have to continue with what I'm doing.

wrassefan, I have put this on many different posts about cynobacteria. Get the product called RED SLIME REMOVER-period! Petwhse.com has it for like 14.00 and it will get rid of all of your problems in less than one week! No effect on anything else!

kb, I dont remember what product we were discussing. My fish store has two different kinds, one liquid and the one I got is a yellow powder you mix with tank water then pour it in.AMAZING how well it worked. Within hours you could see it stringing up. 48hrs later I scooped it out with my net. Still no sign of its return.STEVE

Mr. Salty,
What exactly is the powder stuff you got called?? The stuff I tried is liquid and said it killed red slime algae and cyno right on the front. Guess I'm gun shy about using another miracle product.

The stuff I used is called"Red Slime Remover" by Ultra Life reef products. Slyly Yes it is a sign of an inbalance.Usually High nitrates,or phosfates.Problem is,as long as the algae is in there your readings will most likly read normal. The algae is eating all the excess ates,or phos. You need to get the algae out of the tank so you can get an accurate reading.STEVE

Thanks for the info Mr. Salty. Just ordered it online. LFS doesn't carry it. Also congrats on the "shark" title.

Hey kb,
The package got lost until today. I did get the yellow powder-Ultra Reef Slime Remover and it was under $10 bucks. I'll let you know. Hopefully it will be only a couple of days like you and Mr.Salty had for results. The cyno has slowed to a crawl with my use of a tap water purifier and a phosphate sponge during water changes. The 4 hermits I added helped alittle. They are frightened of being a snack to my greenbird wrasse. Can't blame them...down to 3 now. I'll keep ya' posted.

Hey Mr. Salty & kb,
Well here are my results after using the Ultra Reef Slime Remover. I wish I could say that I had amazing results like you both...but I didn't. I think it's helping but I'm not sure it's just from my using the tap water purifier and the phosphate remover. After the second dose, the skimmer went nuts and started overflowing (suddenly it was too much air). After a few adjustments, the skimmer was foaming normally again. The cyno isn't any worse but it has stop coming back as quickly.
