i recently added my rare baby blue tang it was really small the guy at the fish store said it had a 50-50 chance of living cause he was so small anyways i had him for about 2-3 weeks and he was perfectly fine until he got caught to the power head is there something i can do for all that suction power in case i get another small fish because now im pissed i really liked him he was literally a little bigger than my avatar.

most powerheads come with a foam prefilter. You can put this on to prevent this from happening again. If not,you can probably rig something from a foam filter replacement pad for filters.

in most cases, the fish don't get stuck to a powerhead while alive(in my experience anyway). they get sucked up after they die. all the fisk i ever had(including freshwater) know to stay away from the powerhead. the sponge thing will work for you though, i personally don't do that. i figure it's just anothe thing to clean. plus, they accumulate alot of air in them. after it builds up for awhile, it shoots huge unsightly bubbles all over the place.

im sure he wasnt dead first but ive heard about the foam, i dont want all those bubbles shooting in my tank after it builds up
its a power head 302

another good thing to do depending on what kind of powerhead you use is to get a peice of pvc pipe about 1 foot long with a cap at one end. now, take the pipe and cut slits in it about a half inch apart from one another. give about 4 inches from the top before starting the slits. do the cuts on both sides of the pipe about 1/4 of the way into it. then attach it to the power head. it makes the suction much less powerful so the fish can't be sucked in as easily. and since the pipe is pvc, it will grow coraline very quickly, so it won't really look too bad.

Mldamsel---the easiest (and fairly cheap) way to do it, is to got to Petsmart and buy a prefilter made by hagen (the same company that makes the 302, so it's a perfect fit....) i think it's called the 'quick filter', it's a cylindrical tube with slits in it, just like what LORDOFTHEREEF mentioned, but it's much easier...they only run about $5.99. ive seen them at pretty much every petsmart around....
