damn ballast keeps humming!!

i got these 2 MH pendant lights from hamilton and one of the ballasts won't shut up! i talked to a rep from hamilton and he said that it's normal but this thing's startin to get louder.
does anybody else on here have this problem with their ballasts? i just wanna know before i start roustin on csr's.

That's the nature of the beast. Some will hum. It's called the 60HZ hum, which comes with any type of magnetic transformer. You could buy a thousand ballasts, some will hum, some wont. It's a matter of luck really. Best thing you could do is try to put some insulating rubber grommits between where the ballast is mounted to the ballast box. That's my best suggestion.

sounds to me like you got a re-built ballast that was not reassembled properly. The magnetic core is spinning off center is what it sounds like to me.
