ANYBODY HAVE A SKILTER? DOES YOURS MAKE THAT LOUD NOISE WHEN YOU OPEN THE VALUE? WHY THE LOUD NOISE? IF I USED IT ON A HOMEMADE SKIMMER WOULD I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM?

Chuck out the line that comes with it for the air. Get a air pump, run a line under and into the cylinder from the bottom, and turn the air on.... Quiet now.

I Tried The Pump Solution. Still Quite Loud. Does The Skliter That You Have Still Makes Noise?
Not Sure What I Can Be.

I am currently running a skilter on my tank until I get all the plumbing parts to plumb in my sump so I can use my new skimmer. I did the air pump mod and the key there is to run a limewood air diffuser on the end of the airline I also used a film canister to minimize the bubbles going back into my tank. I also scrapped the top to the skimmer and I have a collection cup from a cpr sr4 skimmer on top of the skimmer tube to collect the skimmate I think you could do the same thing with a piece of 1" pvc pipe and a 4" cap. the added Height the collection tube dries out the skimmate a little otherwise the original collection cup was filling up every day. I get very dark skimmate and usually have to empty the cup once a week or so. There is definently no comparison to a good skimmer but works well if your budget is limited or possibly on a hospital tank. Also there is no noise comming from the skimmer the only noise is the air pump and you need to dissconnect the airline from the venturi on the skilters pump if you haven't done that already.

How can you still have noise? The air pump is putting the air into the cylinder now... I had the skilter 400, and I member the noise this thing made, and I went nuts, so I did just what I explained to you, and I hear absolutely nothing from it after this mod....Hmm...You have the air mixed right? Is it producing foam? O put the cap on the hole in the old air flow, or just leave the other one on and turn it completely off....

I Used A Little 10 Gallon Air Pump. I Also Have A Air Pump For 55 Gallon-should I Use That One Instead?

Yea, use the bigger of the 2. I had a duel Rena, biggest one, on mine, and used it for air adjustments. I don't think the lil one is gonna be able to keep up.

I fitted mine with a limewood airstone and it is quiet and produces a lot of waste. I still don't think it is as good as a "real" skimmer.
