Damsel digging a hole??

My damsel has created a huge crater in the middle of 2 pieces of live rock. I have an area that two big pieces of rock put together in a V make a cave area with a tunnel in the back. Of course he named that "HIS" territory. It was right in the middle of the tank wherer I wanted my anemone. So, I stuck a smaller piece of rock in the middle of the cave and put another smaller on top stretching over to make a smaller cave tunnel area in the same spot, but seperating where I put the anemone so the damsel woudlnt bug him and still had "HIS" area.
Well in the past couple days he takes his tail almost standing up and smacks the sand. Now he has dug a hole almost to the bottom. Is he really a she looking for a place to lay eggs (I have no idea how they reproduce), or has he just lost his mind already?
Have any of you ever seen one do this? Its been about 3 or 4 days and now that he has his hole he has settled. I guess I should leave it alone and let him keep it? I think he's been sleeping there?

Well, i don't have a damsel. But when i first introduced my tomato clownfish to my tank, he also did this.

sure it isn't a maroon clown?? i know clowns are in the damsels family but if it is a clown they will always do this, and i dont know of a way to stop then, but be carful as you said hes almost dug a hole to the bottom glass, with clowns its always best to put something under the sand so they cant dig to deep as alot of diffrent clowns will dig
i have 4 layers of eggcrate under my sand so my maroons can only dig about 1" anywhere in the sand, and my rocks set right on top of the eggcrate so the fish can make my rock collum fall and bust my tank

While cycling my 150, I had a yellow damsel that literally dug sand CAVES all through the sand. Sometimes I would look in the tank and not be able to find him. I'd get a flashlight and look ALL over, even behind the rocks. And then I figured out that he was actually burrowed under the sand in a little cave he made. He got pretty pissed when my crabs started caving his little tunnels in though, he'd charge them. Weird entertainment!

my royal gramma keeps digging half the sand out from under one of my bigger rocks. it's sitting on the bottom of the tank, but has a little bit of a ledge like it's not completely flat on the bottom. he swims down in, gets a mouth full of sand, swims back out and spits it all through my tank. 2 of my rocks are now covered in sand and there's a big pile right outside of his burrow. it would be funny if i didn't have to keep cleaning the sand off my rocks! and it does no good to fill it in... just gives him something to keep busy with for a few more hours.
