What do you want to do? Do you like them? If they are too plain for you....and you want more exotic fish....there's your answer. lfs will sometimes 'trade' back or buy back. Mine will. If my damsel and clown disturb the more 'costly' and exotic fish we get in the future, they will go back. My clown already tore up another little domino damsel and I moved that to the qt tank for now. For me it's a 'see what happens thing'. Lots of others will tell you of their experiences and they will be all over the board so to speak, which will give us lots of insight. good luck.

Take them back, you will be glad you did. They get more territorial as they age.I wish I had never started with damsels.Mine tormented clown gobies, and just about any new arrival for over a year!

How many do you have and what color are they? The problem with damsels is that they are territorial - some moreso than others. But it can cause trouble. That being said, there are many fish with this issue, including some clowns, dottybacks and grammas. Small fish, big attitude.
I had a striped damsel that I had for like 8 years. He had rule of a 15g and would attack me when I cleaned. But he was also very cute, and survived my years of ignorance in the hobby. So I felt an obligation to keep him. And he was cute, deep down, with his little frown that earned the alternative name of "humbug" damsel.
But a tank of them, IMO, would be a bit much. I don't think you would want that.

Damsels are worthless IMO. Yes some of them are very colorful but their temperment is why I hate them so much. Plus, as they grow older they lose their color. I have such a distaste for Damsels that I wouldn't even cycle one with my tank.

Hiya,
I LIKE my damsels. I've got three in my 37, a yellow tail, a thompson and a clown. Yes, they do show off at each other but there's plenty of room for them to run and hide if they need it.
Granted, I'm still new to this hobby, tanks been up for six months, so who know's in another 6 months I may hate them.

In my novice opinion, damsels are a good way to start. Until you get the hang of all the things you need to know.....like me. I put money into fish and then had troubles do to my no experience level. It was then that I found this site. I lost the expensive fish. The damsels are hardy....so for me they are good for right now, as I try and learn about everything and experience all the different problems that arise. So...we are sticking with the damsels until we are more sure of ourselves and ready to put money into fish with confidence. I would be interested to hear what you decide to do and what kinds of fish you get!
