I have set up a 85 gal reef with 100lbs of live rock and 60 lbs of live sand, question is I was thinking of just putting in chromis and assorted damsels ( I know one and the same) anyway I have all sorts of snails and crabs in as well. so tell me if this is a good idea or not. By the way the reason theory here is i can have more of an active reef tank with smaller fish!!!!!

depends n how many & what kind; vary in size & temperment; who would have though a little dominoe could grow up to be so much bigger & meaner <img src="graemlins//evilwhorn.gif" border="0" alt="[Evil Horn]" />

believe it when ppl say that damsels can get very territorial and aggressive. Green chromis are more docile but we have had one mean domino and some pretty nasty black and white striped ones, I think they are humbugs. We just took a blue damsel back to the lfs today. he was fine until the domino left the tank due to aggression and then he took over. personally, I prefer the rocks to the damsels. HTH

what about an allan damsel blue on top yellow on the bottom ? the green chromis is a nice fish but seems to do better when there are several of them I agree dominos can be mean as anything saw mine go after psudochromis, tang and an angel i tried to add to the tank stress them out so bad I had to take my whole tank apart to get him out he and they grow huge. I've seen people have tanks with just damsels but you need to add them together and similiar levels of aggression meaning I suggest not putting the chromis in a tank with several other aggressive damsels. They would probably just get beaten up. just my opinion

Well, I hate to admit it, but my two yellow-tails went back to the lfs when I moved the tank about two weeks ago. Fortunately the lfs has some tanks set up in pre-schools and the damsels get to move there. (So I was told).
I miss them. They were pretty and very active. My tank is full, but seems kind of empty without them. BUT the one yellow-tail was WAY TOO aggressive. I suspected that the other yellow-tail would become the same with no. 1 removed. Both are gone now for the good of the "community" tank. Everyone gets along now... and the shrimp are not being harassed.
