DARN C/C FRAUD

Well I get home from work and have a message from my bank...I call them, and they ask if I recently purchased airline tickets overseas.....I was like WHAT...WHERE...well 2 transactions tried to go thru my visa check card ...one for $667 tickets to Kuwait....and one for $1698 tickets to Bangkok
....Apparently my bank has a $1000 a day limit (which explains why my skimmer purchase wouldn't go thru) I check my accounts daily, so I would have noticed this in the morning...but how aggravating!!!
SOOOOO I had to cancel my card....it seems the one for $667 will clear tomorrow, so I will have to leave work early to go sign some papers....the bank will immediately refund my money...and they will have to try to recover theirs.....
this SUCKS.....I only buy from reputable places (like here
) and Walmart, local gas....that type of stuff.....I very rarely carry cash....it will take a week or so for my replacement....darn...I hate writing checks

this is why i dont own a single Credit card and never have. You dont need them to build up your credit. All they do is hurt it IMO. Glad you got it fixed but i hear more and more stories about this crap all th etime. Looks like Osama's gang is flying here on your dime. You are a terrorist cat lady!

I just had this happen to me on my DEBIT card. On sunday some bought 800 dollar plane tickets to Africa. Got my money back but still make's me mad.

I make a lot of money using my CC. Gotta love that cash back. I never use the debt card for anything other than the ATM. If that gets snaked it comes out of the checking account which can cause all kinds of problems if you don't catch it quick.
Citibank had a kind of cool feature a few years ago. If you wanted to make an online purchase they would issue a specific number that was only good for a single transaction. Don't know if they still do that or not.

Its happend twice to my credit card. Thank goodness we have a decent cc company. There are a lot of flags. Like our flag to the cc company was someone tried to enroll us in Ancestry dot com. Theives do a "trial run" on a number, if it goes, so do they.
The other time was a weird transaction, I forget what for, but they called asap.
On a side note, I try to run "credit" as much as possible on my debit card, especially at gas stations etc.
Keep your eyes peeled on your credit also. We invested in an equifax subscription after that. Worth the investment IMO. Just to make sure nothing crazy popped up.
good luck :(

The one thing I do..is check my bank accounts daily, and my credit reports monthly.....I do that free credit report thing....but one thing they don't tell you is even though you can only get one free a year.....you can go into it during that year and get updates....
Just make sure you keep your report #

+1000 here.....Using a debit card is leaving you vulnerable to all kinds of fraud, and in many cases, the banks won't reimburse. But using Credit cards, all transactions are always disputable, and 99.9% of the time, you will be credited back immediately (not to mention the "cash back", "frequent flyer miles", or in my case "Disney points" that come along with using a cc.

It depends, since most debit cards are now linked with a VISA or Master Card etc. Those will usually provide you similar fraud protection...

EXACTLY....Mine is a VISA.....there were about 6 hits on my account....one went thru yesterday from Jazeera Airlines Kuwait for $331
another today from some Thai-airways for $497...and one more will probably go thru....the others got rejected and now of course the card is cancelled
I signed the fraud papers yesterday afternoon at the bank....and all monies are being re-deposited into my account

The worst part about debit/credit cards is that all someone needs to do in order to use it or steal it is to know the names/numbers on the card...any time a purchase is made all of this info is present and it's so easy for someone to borrow this information.

Most of the time with online orders you need to know the 3 digit security # on the back too......you also have to match the billing address exactly..

None of which are hard at all to get..which is why credit card fraud is so popular.

I just don't see why they keep doing that. The CC companies are willing to take the liability of fraud. But then they have policy in place that doesn't allow you to ID users. Then none of the merchants match the signature on the back of the card and the receipt.

Difference between a CC and debt/check card is the money is removed from you checking account within a day or two with the check card. You can get the money back but that can take some time. Meantime you have checks bouncing and are broke.

I know a couple people that have had this happen to them. One took a few days to get the money back into the account. Another was a few weeks but that was like 10 years ago when his got hacked. Banks may have changed the rules since then.
