Well, it's been in the tank now for well over 24 hours. Definitely starting to look more confortable, but it still hasn't moved. I may offer it some food this afternoon - depending on how it looks when I get home from work.

Carpets are pretty easy to keep if (and this is a big if) you can meet their lighing requirements, and if you can get a healthy one. From my experience, the number one reason people aren't successful keeping anemones is because they aren't healthy at the time of purchase. Assuming you've got a healthy one, I find that carpets are pretty hardy if you can give them enough light.
Good luck with yours.

while i agree lighting is very important with a carpet, along with most other anemones, the main reason people cant keep them alive is they dont feed them properly.
they are fish eaters, they eat fish. not shrimp, squid, krill, etc.. (when starved into eating it they will eat the listed but its not their natural food and they prefer fish) they need silversides with the bones in them. and they depend on intake of fish as much as if not more so then light.
i feed mine at least 3x per week. i recently traded off one i had for 3 yrs because it outgrew the tank it was in and i didnt have room in another tank. he was 5"when i got him and 18+ when i let him go. he was kept under 2x400w MH in a 75g tank. my current one is 6" and is under 250w MH in a 29g.

was in an LFS and saw the hind end of a yellow tang sticking out of one ..... the thing is huge and it moves regularly in their display tank .... would not have it in a tank with other corals ....
very cool specimen though!

They certainly are a beautiful creature. Mine was a pest though... it moved all over the tank and got caught on one of my pumps and killed everything!!!!! I will never get one again!!

FWIW if you keep a carpet under enough light and provide enough current that it 'rolls' the cap slightly as long as he's feed he will not move. i'v had them stay put in the spot i placed them into the tank for over 5 yrs. they also prefer a sandy substrate with a rock next to them to attach to.

I just moved mine yesterday and it had a foot in about an hour....I had to use a spatula to get it off the bottom of the tank. I only moved it about 10 inchs but its a realy happy carpet.

I had one for a while and it was doing good on my regular feeding of silversides and PC light. It even survive when I move everything from the old tank to the new reef tank that I setup. But when all my fishes started dying mysteriously, I had to bring it in to my LFS to trade it in.:nope:
