yesterday i bought a coral banded shrimp, it had 1 leg missing i did not notice this till i got home, today it is dead or in a molt as the carcass/molt is in plain view. is it obvious when it is a molt, i have 4 peppermint shrimp, and an urchin which all have been thriving for several months so i don't believe i have a water problem and i acclimated him over 4 hours any thoughts on this thanks tobin

remove the molt, crush it, if it is hollow, its a molt, if its meaty its your crab. Just make sure its dead before attempting this test

You shouldn't need to crush anything. I had a CBS the molts are semi-translucent and when pulled out of the water they flop right down (bended over) The shrimp itself wouldn't be that flexible with the body inside.
