Dead clownfish

Hey everyone!
Tank has been up for 4 mos.(? i think) ordered fish from swf. 1-1"tang, 1 perc. clown, 1 cleaner shrimp after it cycled and all were doing great. Went to lfs and purchased a small red star and hermit. Both died within 5 days. Now two weeks later my clown develops a condition that looks as if his color is drained and he starts staying at the bottom and then swims frantically before laying on the bottom dead. I look in my tank and there are small little white things clinging to the sides of the tank. They look like tiny pieces of white rice. Could this have come from the lfs? Would this have anything to do with the clown dying? I do not have a qt yet but, before anything else this will be my next purchase. Does anyone have any idea what happened to the clown or what the rice is?
Nitrates 0, ammonia, 0, ph 8.0, mellinium 3000 hang on and a small protien skimmer, 30gal with dried coral.
Thanks!

I don't think it is the tang. Yes, they do need bigger tanks, but such a small tang would not have grown so aggressive. And I don't think it could have killed the star and hermit without some kind of signs of aggression because their exosceleton is so hard.

It's a lopezie tang (blue spotted) very non-aggressive, I thought they got along really well. Why would a perc. clown start to lose color?
