Dead fanworm - feather duster question

One of my featherdusters crawled out of its "shell" and is lying at the bottom of my tank dying. My other duster, snails, shrimp and fish are all fine. I tested my water and have high nitrates.
Could the high nitrates have cause the worm to abandon its home, and crawl clear cross the bottom of my tank?

nitrates I would think so. Its stress, they leave tube. DONT remove him. He may be ok. Leave the tube he might be reproducing. The shrimp starts eating the worm then its done.

He's looking a bit sicker now. I think an aiptasia has got him. I don't think there will be much left in the AM.
