When I buy anything from LFS and I get the fish or invert home within an hour or two I float the bag and then drip acclimate maybe 45min max.

We do the same thing and we have a holding tank to put our new friends in for about 2 weeks to make sure they are eating properly. And if for some reason they die, we can find them right away instead of losing them in the DT. Our LFS has a 2 week guarantee on livestock as well. That's a good thing!

so jealous! we have a tiny lfs and at most they have about 25 fish, when they restock and those are gone within a few days. i figured i would try to get one that was just in and i know they had put it in the night before. i wont do that again!

If you can, get a 10 or 20 gallon tank and use it just to house new arrivals so that way you can watch them before adding them to your display tank.
And, most LFS definitly do not have a guarantee on SW fish. SWF.com does though. Maybe check them out. For hubby's birthday, I'm going to order some fish from this site for him(admittedly our first time!). They seem to have great prices and it's the only place I know of that has copepods for sale. My LFS also sells them, but they are always on backorder.

Cool beans! That will help a lot. We never had a holding tank (we had a QT) until coming to this site and talking to these great ppl. Sure we have a lot of tanks set up, but it beats losing a fish.

I would of called your LFS to see if they have a return policy. Mine does for 3-4 days after purchase and a sample of your tank water and they'll give you store credit.
Never hurts to ask.

ok thanks, i was told to do no less than 2 hours from the lfs (very aggrevated at this point with them).
I honestly do not think that acclimation was the problem here. I always acclimate for at least two hours. The last fish that I bought I acclimated for four. I have never had an issue with it. It is likely that the fish was just not healthy when you got him. I am sorry for your loss.

I'd hav to agree, it would seem that it was simply not your fault but rather the stress put on him from shipment to LFS and from LFS to your house. I had a very similar spute but with a dragonette insead... very likely due to mulitple stressfull situations during transfer, and or unhealthy.
