Dead or Alive?

Tizzo gave me this last night. I don't know what it is so I'm including a picture. The ends of the tentacles are supposed to pulsate, but it's pretty much looking as it is in the picture right now. Do these things go dormant for a day or so when you first put them in a tank or is it dead?

Is it pumping xenia? If so, from what I've read, they will sometimes stop pumping. They really aren't sure why they pump. But it is alive.

Yes, Xenias! Thanks. I hope you're right! They haven't pumped since I turned the lights on 5 hours ago.

I have pulsing xenias and the pulsing varies. They didn't pulse much at first but do pretty good now. Also, the current around mine is moderate so they get blown around a little making it hard to pulse all the time.

Otherwise known as Pom Pom Xenia. The water flow is very light around them, btw. Do they need strong currents or light currents. I'd ask Tizzo but she might be asleep right now.
Also, it was a lot bigger and a different color when it was in her tank. It's kind of contracted right now.

Your Xenia is not looking good, how did you acclimate it to your tank? Also, you might want to check your PH and Alk…ideally, you want your PH to be around 8.3 and your alk 12 dkh.

they should be ok.... when we took some in to trade at the lfs, they looked like that for a while, but they perked up.

Tizzo checked my water and deemed it suitable for soft corals. She checked PH, alk, ca, etc.
I just looked and a few "fingers" are starting to close and open, so it is alive, and doing better than it was a 1/2 hour ago. I realize compared to last night in Tizzo's tank it's not looking too good, but as I said, it seems to be reviving. I just read that they're one of the most hardy of Xenia's as well.
You'll notice I didn't mention how I acclimated it. If I told you what I did, Tizzo would kill me.

I just double checked and the 2 doc's call it pumping xenia. That must be where I got it from.

Let's play the "common denominator" game. LOL

Hey Tizz .... you neglected to point out that you're a female.

That was the point of my common denominator game. See, now you gave away the answer!
