Just wondering what I may have done wrong with my fishes... I left for about a week for break... My roommate took care of my fishes, I get back today and my picaso was dead... I have a 72-gal set-up just him and a lion fish. My roommate said he was fine till I found him, I guess... Anyhow, the water quality was fine, just wondering what may have happened to him? Do lions attack other fish they live with if they have previously attacked them? Cause my Picaso attacked him a few times before and ripped off a few of the lions fins, or whatever... Before this these guys lived togther for months. Is this revenge for the lion???? Any suggestions what may have happened? Or behavior of the lion??? :(

Well, Lionfish are actually peaceful fish, but they do eat other fish and have poisonous spines. So, that could raise some eyebrows. I've never heard of a lion 'attacking' if it were to attack, it would simply inhale the other fish. How big is the trigger. Well when they are small, they could be vuneralbe to the lionfish's sting. If you say they trigger picked on the lion, the lion might have just stuck his spines up and protected himself. So that could be a possibity. Can you give me some more info, like size of the fishes, what species of lion, anyother fish besides the 2, what are you feeding them, ect..

Yeah... The picaso was pretty small (4") maybe, the lion was big (Volitan), I hadnt planned putting much any thing else in there with them so they were by themselves, and they seemed to have enough room for themseleves, the lion hanging out on the walls the Picaso doing whatver... The lion has been eating feeders, the picaso silver sides, brine shrimp, clams, squid, krill... And I have noticed the picaso picking on the lion a few times and he tried attacking him once for it... He darted towards him, thats about all, so maybe unfornately the lion was just protecting himself......
Thanks for the suggestion

You really should try to change your lions diet. But in response to the question, he could have got stung (rarely happens though) or just died of natural causes. I'm afraid this is one you may never know. If they get stung there is usally a very nice clue to the sting. Injury/trauma to picasso side or wherever he got hit along with swelling.
