What good is a hobby if you can't have a little fun while learning?

Joe, anaerobes is referring to anaerobic bacteria. Unless you know of any other life forms that can exists in the presence of zero oxygen. Sounds like the potential to crash a DSB to me.

Dino, falls into the category of gram positive pathogens, as does some aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Cyano clearly falls into one of those categories and it's some pretty hard to kill bacteria. I mean its been around for billions of years. must be some pretty intense stuff.

You may find this interesting. It's a new study outlying the symbiotic relationship between bacteria and corals. It seems to me that just about every form of life relies on bacteria including humans. I wonder if this has something to do with the reports of corals dying off using chemi clean but fish generally seem fine in those same system. https://www.whoi.edu/news-release/picoplankton

Haha great discussion guys! I know about erythromycin, it's a macrolide antibiotic which inhibits a region of the ribosome in the cells and prevents protein production by the cell. I'm surprised that this doesn't affect other bacteria though...?

We use it in hospital to cover all sorts of bacteria. Weird how they say it only affects cyano on the directions...?

Ok just so you guys know I'm not gonna get it just yet. I'll wait for a few months cause as you said it's to be expected in a new tank. It seems to grow back a week after I siphon it, but I'm not surprised because I used dry rock which probably still has die of die off it. So I'll give my tank 2-3 months before I think it's a deeper problem.
